How Far Is Palm Desert From LA, Orange County and San Diego?

If you are thinking about leaving the coast, the first question is usually how far you would be from family. Here is how it looks from Palm Desert.

Los Angeles: From LAX it is about 133 miles and around 2 hours 24 minutes with no traffic. With Friday afternoon traffic on the 10, add an hour or more.

Orange County: Roughly 100 miles, about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the 91.

San Diego: Roughly 140 miles, about 2 hours 15 minutes

What actually matters

The number on the map is not the number you will live. The drive out on a Friday and back on a Sunday is where the time goes. Leaving before 6am or after 7pm changes everything.

MY TAKE: Most people I work with who move here for good end up making the drive less often than they expected. 

Who this works for

Hybrid workers who go in a couple of days a month, and early retirees whose grandkids visit here more than the other way around.
